The London borough teams falling under the Surrey Squash umbrella excelled in the 2026 London Youth Games. We had four of the eight teams battling it out last Saturday at the Harrow Leisure Centre and, in a nail-biting final which went down to the wire (including a broken string at match point!),Croydon just edged out Sutton to win Gold. In fact, it was even better than that because Merton and Richmond only just missed out on semi-final spots, coming fifth and sixth respectively. Special congratulations to Pete Smith, Croydon coach/team manager, and Sam Hodgkins, his counterpart at Sutton and their players.

Both the qualifiers in January and the finals on Saturday were a great success and it was a delight to see so many young people enjoying their squash. The team spirit and their excellent behaviour on and off court were a credit to them and to the sport.

We want to thank all our coaches/team managers, the players and their parents, and the borough sports officers, all of whom helped to make the 2026 LYG squash such a great event.
