Stage 1 of the Senior Inter-County Championships (SICC) took place last weekend, with Surrey teams travelling across the country to represent the county. Here’s a summary of how our sides performed.

Ladies 1st Team

Our Ladies 1st team travelled to Norwich to face Norfolk and Essex. The team of Ally, Emmeline, Boo, Esther and Phoebe delivered an outstanding performance, winning both ties 5–0 — and remarkably without dropping a single game across the entire weekend. A dominant display and a real statement of intent.

Ladies 2nd Team

The Ladies 2nds travelled to Berkshire, where they faced the hosts and Lincolnshire. Represented by Annie Vaughan, Ella F, Nikita Goel, Maya Goel and India Smith, the team secured two impressive 3–2 victories.

In both matches, Surrey lost at strings 1 and 2 but showed tremendous depth and resilience as our junior players at strings 3, 4 and 5 won their matches to clinch both ties. A fantastic team effort and a great example of the strength of our pathway.

Men’s 2nd Team

The Men’s 2nds had a tough assignment, travelling to Kent for matches across both Saturday and Sunday against Kent, Middlesex and Essex.

Competing were Michael Chak, Ben Coates, Seigo Masuda, Archie Chatwin, Josh Jacobs, Jaanshere Khan, Oliver Harwood and Luke Stewart. The team lost 0–5 to a strong Kent side, narrowly lost 2–3 to Essex, and finished the weekend on a high with an emphatic 5–0 win over Middlesex.

Despite earning a solid haul of points, the team finished third in their group and are unfortunately unlikely to progress to Promotional Weekend.

What’s Next?

Our Men’s 1st team compete in the Premier division and now look ahead to Finals Weekend on 25–26 April in Pontefract.

Both Ladies teams will also be joining them there as they fight it out in the promotional race for a place in the Premier division next season.

Congratulations to all players involved for representing Surrey so strongly. We look forward to cheering on our teams at Finals Weekend later this season.
