This weekend the coaches and team players were up in Sheffield competing in the Junior Inter County Finals 2024.

On the Friday night, the players were treated to a special coaching session with Nick Matthew! 29 of our Surrey juniors attended and were fine-tuning their skills for the weekend matches ahead.

On Saturday, 8 of our ‘A’ teams started to battle for the position in their age group finals, with a mix of tough and easier matches throughout the day.

As well as the final position matches in the main competition, the ‘B’ teams came up on Sunday to play in their plate finals too. Team Surrey had some brutal matches from the go on Sunday, some brilliant team and individual wins that meant the following results:
Boys under 11s – 4th
Boys under 13s – 1st 🏆
Boys under 15s – 2nd
Boys under 15sB – Plate 🏆
Boys under 17s – 1st 🏆
Boys under 17B – 2nd

Team Surrey won an incredible 4 National Titles this weekend. The players in every one of the 11 teams gave everything they could on court to get these results and we are so proud of them all!

England Squash have just published an article with more information – England Squash – Surrey complete four title swoop at 2024 Junior Inter Counties
“It was a double swoop for Surrey in the U13 categories after the boys team won 3-2 in a tense final against the only other undefeated team: Yorkshire, whilst the girls team beat Wales 2-1 in the last tie following triumphs over Hampshire and Yorkshire.”

“The BU17 category saw Surrey lose just one match over three five-match ties, defeating Hampshire, Yorkshire, and Warwickshire to win with Ronnie Hickling, Jake Johnston and Indie Flint all not dropping a game.”

“No.5 seeds Surrey won the BU19 category as the team overcame No.4 seeds Northumbria, No.1 seeds Hampshire and No.6 seeds Lincolnshire on their way to the title. While facing the top seeds, Surrey’s Michael Chak and Sonny Flint both won their matches 3-0 with Chak scoring 11-0 in his second game.”

A huge thank you goes out to all the coaches – Michael Hennings, Clare Wright, Neil Frankland, Claire Baker, Ryan Whiteley and Ella Frankland for all their coaching, support and encouragement. Also a massive thank you to all the parents for bringing the players along and for creating such a supportive and fun atmosphere for everyone throughout the weekend!
