Anant Gupta (pictured on the far left), who has been a member of Purley Sports Club since he was a junior and who now plays for the squash teams, took part in the Racketlon World Championships in Vienna in August 2022. Racketlon is a sport where you play your opponent in 4 different sports, one after the other: table-tennis, badminton, squash and tennis – the winner being the player with the most points. Anant was selected to play for Team GB in the Under-18s category. They got a silver medal after losing a close final to Germany. Anant also got a silver medal in the singles Under-18s competition.

Rakesh Gupta (pictured left in the blue t-shirt), who has been a member of Purley Sports Club for over 20 years, was selected to play for Team GB in the Over-55s category and they too got a Silver medal. Rakesh also got a bronze in the singles event after knocking out the number 1 seed in the quarter-finals, losing in the semi-finals but then winning the 3rd/4th place play-off. Rakesh is very pleased as he was out of action for a few years with knee problems.

Huge congratulations to both Anant and Rakesh for such an incredible achievement!
